Teach First Challenge at the Southbank Centre - 22 September 2012

OFA was invited to be part of Teach First Challenge 2012 10 Year Anniversary Celebrations at the Southbank Centre. This was an amazing day and was attended by 1000s of people across the Teach First community. Our woodwind ensemble performed a Haydn trio in the Royal Festival Hall in front of 3000 people as part of the opening ceremony before joining the rest of the orchestra and the newly formed National Voices for All choir in an open rehearsal and workshop in the iconic Queen Elizabeth Hall. We worked on two pieces in this rehearsal (Heaven by Emeli Sande and Heron by Karin Polwart) that had been specially arranged for the occasion by composer Toby Young.

It was a truly wonderful occasion.

OFA at the Southbank Centre - 23 June 2012

On 23 June 2012 a group of OFA players took part in the Sounds Venezuela Festival at the Southbank Centre. The Festival celebrated the Southbank residency of the Simon Bolivar Orchestra and their conductor Gustavo Dudamel. As part of this festival, OFA players participated in an improvisation session led by Fraser Trainer – one of the leading workshop leaders in the country. We then had the once in a lifetime opportunity to observe the Simon Bolivar Orchestra in rehearsal with Dudamel as they prepared for their sold out evening concert.
